Hellow,

I installed a brand new server to host the PDFOfficeConverter service. The user which is running the application (efficy\svc.pdf) doesn't have admin rights on the server / domain.

In interactive mode, everything is working well.

When I start the service, I got this error :

Error while opening Microsoft Word: Server execution failed, ClassID: {000209FF-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

Note that you may have the issue on the Excel or PowerPoint classID

My Environment :

  • Windows Server 2012 R2
  • Microsoft Office 2013 HB

How to fix that ?

  1. Go to your Component Services ( DCOMCNFG )
  2. browse to Component services > Computers > My Computer > DComConfig.
  3. Search for "Microsoft Word 97 - 2003 Document" and open the properties.
  4. In the security tab, for "Launch and Activation Permissions" select customize and then Edit. Add your user and set the permission to "Local Launch" and "Local activation"

  1. In the security tab, for "Access Permissions" select customize and then Edit. Add your user and set the permission to "Local Access"

  1. In the Identidy tab, select "this user" and specify the login & password of your user.

Repeat the operations for the following DCom Applications :

  • Microsoft Excel Application
  • Microsoft PowerPoint Slide

Restart your PdfOfficeConverter service and it's ok :)

Running Word & Excel documents on a server with Administrator privileges would be a bad idea. It's good we have this documented
